Meet QS ImpACT’s Campus Sustainability Champion: Sylvain Djerambete

At QS ImpACT, a UNEP-accredited global charity, we connect universities, organisations, and communities worldwide to foster young talent and lead impactful change for a regenerative future. Last year, our initiatives impacted over 112,000 people across 87 countries, with a thriving community of over 2,100 members and 50 Youth Ambassadors. Every year, QS ImpACT celebrates and recognizes youth who are making a positive impact in their communities through initiatives aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

One of our remarkable QS ImpACT Awards Alumni is Sylvain Djerambete from Chad, who won the Campus Sustainability Champion Award. Chadian students possess the energy, will, empathy and authenticity to create sustainable change but lack the knowledge on climate change to lead their communities to a green future. The project of providing green literacy by ISEC CHAD is not just about receiving an award; it represents a collective success achieved through the hard work of dedicated young leaders.

This community is committed to building a sustainable future through environmental education. The project acknowledges the exceptional work of young environmental activists across Chad who are striving to create a green and sustainable future. The team aims to address the challenges faced by Chad due to climate change, including biodiversity degradation, the drying up of Lake Chad, floods, irregular rainfall, conflicts between communities, and lack of environmental education.

To tackle these issues, they developed various initiatives such as leadership programs, sustainability campuses in universities, summer academies for teachers, waste management programs in schools, and educational materials like comics and newspapers. The project aims to use education as a powerful tool to bring about positive change, echoing Nelson Mandela’s words: “Education is the most powerful tool which can be used to change the world.” Despite the limitations of their resources, the team calls for support from organisations and individuals who share their vision for a sustainable future. Sylvain’s dedication and achievements inspire us all to strive for a sustainable future.

The QS ImpACT Awards are our organisation’s flagship event, celebrating global regeneration and honouring exceptional youth leaders. In 2023, youth around the world made significant impact on their communities, aligning with the SDGs. Among 45 finalists from 18 countries, eight winners were awarded and celebrated for their transformative contributions.
