QS World Merit Launches Freshers Challenge

QS World Merit is excited to launch “Freshers Challenge”, a one-of-a-kind, immersive “SDG Mapping Project” across 21 universities in the United Kingdom.

Starting university is one of the most exhilarating experiences, full of opportunity to learn and step outside your comfort zone. We believe taking your studies one step further starts in your community. What if you could apply your passions to the world around you and earn life-changing opportunities in exchange for your merit? The Freshers Challenge ignites a catalyst for change by mobilizing students at their university campuses to apply their passions for sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their local campus community. From racing to find your campus’s carbon sink to finding out how fossil fuels impact your university and discovering zero-waste initiatives, students have to ‘map the SDGs’ in exchange for QS World Merit opportunities and globally recognized opportunities.

This groundbreaking concept was conceptualized to elevate the student ‘freshers’ experience on campus and activate pathways to understand the interconnected, interdisciplinary nature of sustainability, highlighting the important work already in progress at their universities.

Freshers Challenge is designed to inspire, intrigue, and identify our interest in our planet and surroundings. Together we all can gather, design, and co-create solutions to the ever-growing threat to our planet, economy, and human lives and the very step of doing this is by starting with young people.

QS World Merit cannot wait to allow young people to unlock opportunities to advance the SDGs at our partner universities across the UK.

I want to leave my fellow changemakers with this: “We need the young generation to look at the world with a critical eye and strive to make it a better place, one action at a time.”

Meet QS World Merit, QS, and AIESEC UK – the team behind the Freshers Challenge!

Our program “Freshers Challenge” is just the beginning of a journey with the SDGs throughout your time at university. This is a time to go one step beyond your lecture halls and take action on the world’s most pressing issues on your doorstep.  – Hemali Ghandi, Chief of Staff of QS World Merit
