Earth Day is celebrated every 22nd of April. On this day, individuals and organizations all around the world put an emphasis on taking action for the environment.

Our mission at QS ImpACT is to connect universities, organizations, and communities worldwide to develop young talent to lead through impACT for a regenerative future. In celebration of Earth Day, learn more about some of our young changemakers who lead through climate action in their communities.

Michelle Angkasa, Canada

Michelle is a passionate climate justice advocate and community organiser who has been involved in different environmental efforts. “I was very inspired by the sense of justice, a sense of unfairness. One of the main tenets of climate justice is the recognition that those who have contributed the least to the problem of climate change are the most affected.” They have been involved in various environmental efforts, spearheaded the national Not Going Back campaign with Our Time, and advanced sustainability efforts at the University of Waterloo as the first-ever Sustainability Commissioner. Moreover, they supported student-led, SDG-inspired initiatives as a Programming Coordinator at ReImagine17 and ran as a Green Party of Ontario candidate in June. Currently, she works with the Climate Reality Project Canada, focusing on youth engagement and municipal-level organising.

Nick Steiner, Germany

Nick is the founder of Permanick. Previously, he was also the Head of Climate Farmers Academy at Climate Farmers. “I’ve been working my whole life kind of in nature doing a lot of stuff. Now for the past three years, I’ve been very busy building up Climate Farmers and they’re supporting farmers all over Europe, who want to transition to more regenerative approaches.” He is also passionate about water cycle restoration and how it can regenerate small ecosystems, gardens, and farms.

Aside from Michelle and Nick, our community of young changemakers also works towards SDG 13: Climate Action! Read some of their ImpACT reports.

Our team also works on projects and initiatives for the Earth – Beth created a documentary film called Salmon Parks, Carlo runs a farm called The Green Rebel that will plant a tree in the name of our Trees for Merit winner, Zoya spearheads the Climate Literacy and Action Training with UN PRME, and Aashna runs her company Earth Quest.

It doesn’t have to be Earth Day for you to take action for the environment. You can create impACT, no matter what day it is.

Voices of ImpACT is our global campaign recognising young people who create impACT in their communities. We want to amplify their stories to inspire other young people to create impACT toward achieving a regenerative future.
