March 8th is International Women’s Day. On this day, we celebrate the achievements of women around the world and raise awareness of gender equality.
At QS ImpACT, we recognise young people who create impACT in their communities toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) for a regenerative future. Meet some of our young female changemakers who are working to make the world a better place.
Mary Ameh, Nigeria
Mary is an advocate for SDG 4 (Quality Education). She is a Fellow at Teach for Nigeria and is currently teaching students in a low-income community and guiding them to achieve academically and personally. She uses innovative techniques such as role-play, collaboration, and using local materials to keep her students engaged and interested. “Looking at the number of out-of-school children with potential, who are highly intelligent but lack the financial ability to get an education is what inspired me [to take action].”
Grace Braimah, Ghana
Grace is a multi-awarded social worker in Ghana who won 40 under 40 Achiever for Community Development, among other awards and nominations. One of the projects she organised is The Girls Closet. “Most girls, especially in rural communities have the desire to pursue their educational aspirations but become drop-outs due to several circumstances.” Grace teaches girls about the importance of menstrual hygiene and provides a mentorship program that pairs girls with role models to help them navigate the challenges of growing up.
Aisha Baloch, Pakistan
Aisha is a youth advocate who is working on women’s empowerment. In her community, many girls are not allowed to go to school, but she feels lucky that her family and friends supported her. She studied Electronic Engineering and Masters in Engineering at the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro. “I have faced a lot of troubles that’s why working for women’s education and SDGs was my dream that came true when I joined QS ImpACT.” Currently, she conducts capacity-building and skill-based training on the SDGs at the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro. She is also the Social Media Manager of QS ImpACT Pakistan and our 2022 Most ImpACTful Community Member.
Mary, Grace, and Aisha are just some of the young changemakers contributing to making the world more equal and inclusive. We hope their stories inspire you to take action. Together, we can empower more women and girls and achieve gender equality.
Voices of ImpACT is our global campaign recognising young people who create impACT in their communities. We want to amplify their stories to inspire other young people to create impACT toward achieving a regenerative future.
