On World Environment Day, June 5th 2024, the QS ImpACT Local and University Councils in Pakistan, Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria gathered their communities to bring attention to environmental issues and to encourage people to live in a way that does not harm the environment. These hardworking volunteers put together fun events that gave people the tools they needed to protect our world. 21 volunteers reached out to over 1500 people in their respective communities, spreading awareness and making a difference.
The QS ImpACT Pakistan Council celebrated World Environment Day by successfully organising a conference on environmental issues, and a tree-plantation activity, bringing together students and faculty in a commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The QS ImpACT UENR Council in Ghana held an outreach programme over two days that focused on keeping the environment clean and managing trash properly. During their meetings, they talked about ways to sort trash, reduce it, reuse it, and recycle it. Together with a health worker, they also highlighted the important link between keeping the environment clean and avoiding health issues.
The QS ImpACT Accra Council in Ghana visited Al-Waleed Comprehensive School to teach children about the importance of taking care of the environment. Students and community members were urged by the Council to take care of their environment through awareness campaigns and tree planting.
The QS ImpACT Cape Coast Council in Ghana set up an outreach programme at Kwapro Junior High School, where students discussed topics such as pollution and damage to the environment and also came up with ways to make the future better. The goal of this event was to make young people more aware of environmental issues and give them the tools they need to become environmental activists.
The QS ImpACT Kano Council in Nigeria joined forces with WOFAN Comprehensive School, to engage the students in a conversation on how to keep the environment clean and manage trash in a responsible way. Students read and did tasks that focused on cleaning up the environment. These activities gave them a sense of responsibility at their young age.
The QS ImpACT Maasai Mara Council in Kenya held a community clean-up event at Sekenani Primary School. The goal of this project was to clean up the local environment and encourage community members in the neighbourhood to use healthy sanitation methods.
These activities show the hard work and efforts that our incredible QS ImpACT Councils are putting in to encourage people to be environmentally responsible. These Councils are making a positive impact on the world by involving students, communities, and health professionals towards a cleaner and greener future.
